When His Cell Phone Number is ‘Famous,’ AT&T Customer Uses Privus Mobile to Stay Out of the Spotlight.
Nathan’s AT&T Motorola Q9H is constantly being buzzed. As a public relations representative in Dallas, his cell phone number makes the rounds, showing up in press releases online, landing in the hands of reporters and subsequently on calling lists around the nation. He depends on the phone to keep him in constant contact with clients and members of the media; however, more than 70 percent of his daily calls were coming from solicitors.
“Every time I would see an incoming number I didn’t recognize, I did the familiar ‘should I or shouldn’t I?” Nathan said. “My cell phone number gets thrown up on hundreds of Web sites, which gets added to thousands of sales lists. It’s tough being able to decipher whether it’s a reporter calling or a solicitor, so I usually end up biting the bullet and wind up listening to a sales pitch, which, of course, I’d get another unknown call on call waiting during the first sales pitch. It got to the point where I was juggling multiple telemarketers at one time and missing the calls from reporters.”
Things got so bad for Nathan that he began telling clients to e-mail if they needed to reach him immediately. Nathan and his sanity needed a solution. A co-worker told him about Privus Mobile, a real Caller ID service for cell phones that allows its users to see the caller’s name and number, especially the ones not saved as a contact. Since Privus Mobile was offering a free three-day trial, Nathan opted to give the service a test-drive. After witnessing the downloadable application in action and successfully dodging a few unwanted calls and catching a few he did want, he was sold on the annual service plan.
“Privus Mobile eliminated that fear of looking at 10 numbers and not knowing who’s on the other end,” He said. “That’s an amazing relief. In addition, I can easily save those names and numbers I actually want, like new friends or clients that I might not already have stored in my phone. I had my Privus Mobile service setup where it automatically saved calls from every new number. Then, if the call was from a telemarketer or someone I didn’t want to talk to, I put the number on my phone’s blocked call list, which sends them directly to voicemail each time they call.”
Privus Mobile also benefits his personal life. Similar to the ever-increasing number of cell phone-dependent users, he uses the Motorola Q9H as his business and personal phone. Thanks to Privus Mobile, Nathan was able to see the cable repairperson calling about fixing his home Internet problem. Had it been just another set of random digits, Nathan might not have made the connection.
“Since I’m so dependent on my cell phone for both my business and personal life, I’m constantly finding new programs and services to help make everything more manageable,” Nathan said. “Privus Mobile is one of the few programs that I’ve experienced that should be a standard feature on all new phones. Just like Caller ID on my old landline phone, it’s hard to imagine going back to life without Privus Mobile.”
