Privus Mobile on Verizon Customer’s Blackberry Helps Bridge Business/Personal Life.
Billy is one-part college student, one-part hockey referee and one-part Verizon Wireless Network customer living in New York State. Armed with a Blackberry 8830 World Edition smartphone, Billy depends on his wireless device to make a living and stay connected to friends and family. With many hockey-officiating assignments issued on a first-come, first-served basis, he needs his Blackberry to immediately receive e-mails and phone calls regarding scheduling. A fast reply equals a better chance to earn some extra cash.
As a person who screens calls, Billy was bothered by the lack of caller awareness available on wireless devices. “I was totally getting frustrated because the Caller ID that comes with the phone just shows you the number,” he said. “If you didn’t pick it up or you missed the call, you had no idea who it was. Most of the time, people don’t leave messages. They just move on. Why would you call and not leave a message? It makes no sense.”
Billy estimated that 75 percent of his incoming calls were from phone numbers not stored in his contacts list. No name, just 10 random digits. He was forced to wonder whether it was a call he should be taking or ignoring.
“Most of the calls I didn’t recognize, I wanted to receive,” Billy said. “Sometimes I’m not very good with keeping the numbers in my address book. So if someone would call me and I knew who it was, they would call back the next day from the same number, and I’d wonder, ‘Who is this?’”
While searching on the Web for ringtones and other mobile applications, Billy ran across Privus Mobile’s true Caller ID service for smartphones. He read a few customer reviews and decided to sign up for a three-month subscription and battle-test the service.
“I downloaded Privus Mobile, and it started working great,” Billy said. “All the calls were identified. I think I’ve received one number that had the ‘private’ label, but 99 percent of the calls, you can see the person’s or company’s name and number.”
With Privus on his smartphone, his problem with adding names to his contacts list became non-existent. The one-touch, add-in feature made it easy for the on-the-go college student to store a caller’s name and number. And for those numbers he didn’t want to receive, he had a “special” place for them.
“These salespeople kept calling, and with Privus Mobile, I was finally able to get the information about this company and block them from calling me in the future,” he said. “This company would call from different numbers about three times a day. I reported the company and numbers to Verizon, and they blocked all the calls. I’m only about a month into the subscription, but I love it.”
